General recommendations
- There are great market prospects in speech & language technology (RED)
- Hence, larger coordinated efforts are needed to continue the promotion
of research and innovations in SLE for developing new applications using the
integration of speech and language. (SLE 9)
- There is a need for new researchers in all areas of language and speech.

- There is a need for new updated curricula (i.e. development of educational
and research infrastructure according to well recognized standards), balancing
between theory and practice. (CL 7, SLE 2, SLE 8)
- There is a need for the adaptation of educational technology
infrastructure to current innovations imposed by the market or research
imperatives. (SLE 7)
- There needs to be retraining of staff according to changing (of
industrial/social) needs within language and speech . (SLE 8, SLE 11)
- Industry, national and international bodies should continue to support
projects for the development, testing and evaluation of advanced training
modules for SLE, including ODL and LLL. ISCA-SIG on education can play an
important role. (SLE 11)
- Standards of cooperation with industry need to be developed. (NEL 8, CL
10)
- Cooperation with East European countries and non-European countries in
long term cooperative projects must be fostered (NEL 15, 16, SLE 8)
- trategic needs across multilingual Europe need to be developed (SLE 1)
- There is a need for dedicated training models addressed to various job
profiles (SLE 3)
