Sets of specific curriculum recommendations have been proposed for five different specialisations of Phonetics
Phonetics Phonetics taught as a main specialisation
Linguistics Phonetics applied to Linguistics
Philology Phonetics applied to Philology, Languages or Psychology
SLE Phonetics applied to Spoken Language Engineering, Speech Technology or Speech Communication
CD Phonetics applied to Communication Disorders

The recommendations are a result from a survey of 89 phonetics institutes in Europe in the year 1997 and a consultation of the same institutions in 1999. The Phonetics Working Group of the TNP Speech Communication Sciences has formulated them in such a way that the recommendations cover the core of a phonetics curriculum, differentiated into five institutional profiles that emerged from the surveys.
